One Year To The Day
Back on this day in 2024 I decided to pause my 10mm WFB 3rd edition and have a go at 25mm like I played back in the 80's and 90's.
Switching from 10mm to 25mm meant starting entirely from scratch.
I had big plans at the start, I had intended to have both my small armies painted within a year.
That would be about 2 models per week.
With even the best will in the world that would have been tricky, some times you just don't feel in the mood, sometimes you want to but are too tired to paint well enough, sometimes you get ill.
Looking back it was ambitious, and then I had not factored terrain.
I have had to make/buy/collect all the terrain and so on.
Trees, hedges, walls, fences, fields, scatter, buildings etc.
These all take loads of time, especially as I make much of it myself from scratch.
So where am I so far?
The whole lot, still much left to paint:
The Stirland Garrison:
Some Villagers and passers by:
It is not as much as I hoped in terms of figures, the terrain I had like a fool not thought about so that is all a bonus really.
Overall though I am pleased, the models are all painted to a standard that I am happy with, the buildings I am happy with and or proud of in some instances.
So whilst it has been slower than hoped, it is as pretty if not prettier than I thought it would be.
Let us see where we are in another 12 months time!!
Good effort & great result. These things take time as even the sourcing just right figures can be a long-winded process.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYes, and to be fair looking for the right models can be a hobby in itself.
:D
Good job Mike. I will be there in 12 months to see your 25mm universe complete and share your joy. Keep pushing.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteComplete?
Can such a thing be true?
:D
Beautiful, fantastic to see your progress!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThe terrain is lovely, as are the armies. And the progress is fine - better than my snail-like efforts. But it's the journey as much as the destination, isn't it? Every time I try and rush a mini I regret it later.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI think you are right, it is just that in my head I expected the Empire models to be done by now.
But yeah, rushed minis I am not keen on.
Still Mike it’s bloody awesome start for only a years work….
ReplyDeleteMust be so good to have your partner involved too. Giving the ability to chat while painting.
I so get the motivation and time thing. I just can’t be bothered some days.
Stick with it I’m looking forward to seeing more!

DeleteAlas she plays but does not hobby otherwise.
I have to collect the models and paint them for her, she has her own main hobbies that she uses her spare creative energy on.
She does like games though and as such is happy to play WFB.

Thank you.

Strange isn't it, it is meant to be something we do for fun, but so often we beat ourselves up for not being more productive...
100%….still if we didn’t have such stupidity and nonsense with things like work etc we could paint millions more a year.
DeleteSuch a waste of life it work. Pointless really 🤔
