More Sylvanian Families

Following on from the Sylvanian zombies of here.

I have done the second of my three undead units, some archers.
I am using the simple dark red and black scheme of dread Sylvania, as was hinted on the banner of the zombies.
However where the zombies are just any old peasants risen from the dead, the skeleton archers are former soldiers and as such the remains of their uniforms can be seen.

I was not sure if to stick with the darker dying grass and brown fern bases as in my mind the putridness of the zombies decaying bodies helped this theme make sense, where as the skeletons are just dry bones.

So whilst the zombies clearly make worse the land upon which they walk (shamble) do the skeletons?
I decided yes, they are dead and animated by foul magics so they have the taint of death and decay about them, plus also the army would look odd if the bases were not all the same.

So here they are:

Oh, I decided not to go for white bones as was common back in the day, in my head that did not seem quite right?

Likewise with yours, I will have a proper gander over the next few days.

You will see some of the townscape buildings on here that I alluded to you on your blog!!

  2. Fantastic. I think you nailed them. The whole palette is great and you took the right decision with the bases, which will also provide coherence to the whole army. I love it all

    1. Thank you. I hope the bases work out in the end.
Next to my Stirland bases they look so dark.
But then, that was the point?

  3. Hello Mike, like these a lot you have made the right design choices I think. I think it’s best to keep the base theme the same of a whole army as it helps tie them in together. I tried mixing before and they never sit right together.
Anyway well done another cracking unit!

I think now, after a few days the bases have grown on me.
