The River

Heiligsheld has always been near a river and I wanted to model the river in a single section as I thought it would be nicer to look at than a river in bits with joins.
The perfect way would be to have it sunk into tiles as I always used to do, but that would mean making tiles and I am already well into this project and can't be bothered with starting a new table.

Now, I have made a river before, for my 15mm fantasy games and I wanted to try and get my river to look as nice as that:





However I mucked it up.

I won't bore you with the details here, but poor planning lead me to making a mistake which I hurridly tried to fix but made it worse.
I then had to wait for the 'fix' to dry and then essentially start again with inferior products.

The end result is not a million miles away from what I intended, though the mistakes are visible and it also took a whole weekend to do the water effects rather than about 3 hours..

It is quite wordy and picture heavy.

However I did finish it in the end and it is not terrible.








I have also just about finished the river cottage which sits on the other side.
However that is another blog post for the future.

What I will add here are some images that show the set up with the river before the cottage and bridge.
The cottage shown is actually that of Fraulein Pfiezel, I just used it as a place holder.

These images give you a rough idea of how it all fits together.


















I quite like these shots as you can start to see the village come together as a whole entity rather than several separate bits.


The next post should be more of the finished set up but with the actual models rather than stand ins.

Then the bakery I think..  Unless something else pops up and distracts me.

    That looks splendid. Just read through your thread on the forum. Despite the trials and tribulations it's come out very well. And doing in one piece was worth the effort.

Following on from the Sylvanian zombies of here . I have done the second of my three undead units, some archers. I am using the simple dark red and black scheme of dread Sylvania, as was hinted on the banner of the zombies. However where the zombies are just any old peasants risen from the dead, the skeleton archers are former soldiers and as such the remains of their uniforms can be seen. I was not sure if to stick with the darker dying grass and brown fern bases as in my mind the putridness of the zombies decaying bodies helped this theme make sense, where as the skeletons are just dry bones. So whilst the zombies clearly make worse the land upon which they walk (shamble) do the skeletons? I decided yes, they are dead and animated by foul magics so they have the taint of death and decay about them, plus also the army would look odd if the bases were not all the same. Michaels Mordheim Mashup - Update

Right, work begins on the notheim stuff. Each warband needs a leader and the more dramatic the better right? Seeing as I am sticking with Warhammer feels and not going down the Hammer Horror route I have these 2 as my warband leaders. The vampire Ingrid Karnstein and hunter of the undead Piotr Von Heiligsheld and his hound Kiszen. Nothing is finished yet, Ingrid is a WIP.

Michaels Mordheim Mashup

So having decided to play a version of Mordheim but in my rural setting of Heiligsheld I just need to decide the feel. I am torn between a more traditional WFB style of model and a sort of more historical Hammer Horror style model. I am thinking models that are much less war and more day to day, for example my wife will be playing an undead vampire led warband and whilst I have a WFB vampire, it is very fantasy, I am tempted to use a regular female noble as the vampire. Just pale skin and maybe red eyes. Same with my own warband, which is likely to be witch hunters. I imagine a witch hunter and his entourage coming to Heiligsheld. For the witch hunter, I am thinking less warrior and more magistrate and his priest more of a puritan preacher. I am wanting to make it more historical in its look and low key. So yes vampires, zombies, werewolves, witches and all that jazz, but without all the skulls. One reason for this is my wife and I watch old Hammer Horror films and we lov...
